Letter for your boss

Most companies cover technical books and training under a learning & development (L&D) or training-reimbursement policy, so you usually don’t have to pay for this yourself. This letter makes the case in your manager’s terms: risk avoided, depth built, and an honest line that the learning is yours to apply.

How to claim it

  1. Find your company’s L&D or training-reimbursement policy (usually on the HR portal) and note its name and any approval limit.
  2. Copy the letter below, fill in the parts in [brackets], and send it to whoever approves training spend.
  3. Once approved, buy the option you chose and attach the GST/VAT invoice from your purchase email to your expense claim.

Subject: Training budget request: Embedded Institute handbooks ([option below], one-time)

Hi [manager’s name],

I’d like to request approval to expense the Embedded Institute handbooks under our team’s [learning & development / training reimbursement] budget.

It is a written curriculum on low-level hardware and timing faults, memory corruption and silicon errata, across 10 structured tracks, from compilers, linkers and boot code to the hardware-software interface, crash forensics, testing, production and embedded project management. Tracks are delivered as released, Q4 2026 through Q4 2027.

Why I think it’s worth the cost:

  • Risk and respin avoidance. The most expensive firmware bugs are found late: during qualification, on the test bench or in field trials. A single board respin or delayed shipment costs far more than this one-time fee. The handbooks cover how these failure modes arise, so I can raise them in design review before hardware freeze.
  • Less reliance on senior engineers. Root-cause debugging of timing, bus and memory faults currently pulls our most senior people off roadmap work. This builds that bench depth in me.
  • Clean financials. One-time purchase, no subscription. Dodo Payments issues a GST/VAT invoice for reimbursement.

To be clear about what this is: training material, not a tool or a certification. It doesn’t replace our own review and testing, and the benefit depends on how I apply it to [our current project / MCU family]. I remain responsible for evaluating our system.

Options and one-time prices (please approve [the option I’ve chosen]): a single track ₹4,999$99; all 10 tracks ₹29,999$599, which saves ₹19,991$391 compared with buying the tracks individually; all 10 tracks plus the AI Embedded Developer Toolkit (All-Access) ₹34,999$699; the toolkit on its own ₹12,499$249. Tracks still being written are delivered automatically as they go live.

If we want to cover the wider firmware team, there are one-time company licences for the whole library, hosted on our internal wiki: Small Team (up to 10 engineers) $1,799; Site / Department (up to 50 engineers) $2,900; Global Enterprise (unlimited engineers) from $8,900. These are bought on a company invoice or purchase order. Site / Department includes the code and extra files that ship with the modules, for everyone covered.

Can I proceed with this expense?

Thanks,
